A new camouflaged electric scooter undergoing real world tests has been presumed to be a TVS product that might launch in the festive season.
It was confirmed a few days earlier that TVS is working on a new affordable range of electric scooters. A camouflaged electric scooter was recently spotted in Karnataka undergoing real-world testing, and it seems to be the same. Judging by the look of things, TVS is on track with its development so a festive season launch might be on the cards. The strategy to work on an affordable electric scooter coincides with its fellow legacy and startup manufacturers like Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy, both of whom are working on affordable electric two-wheeler offerings for the Indian market.
As for TVS’ upcoming electric scooter, it could be based on the Jupiter 110 or the iQube platform. This is similar to Honda’s strategy which used the Activa e:’s platform to make the QC1, wherein the latter is a more affordable offering with limited connectivity features, range, and an affordable price tag. Opting for the Jupiter brand name makes sense since it is TVS’s strongest scooter brand. If that is the strategy, the iQube will feature in the entry-level premium EV segment, whereas the TVS X will be positioned as a pure premium EV product.
For TVS to get the costing affordable, it will have to cut corners. So, a smaller battery pack of less than 2.2 kWh capacity, paired with a less powerful electric motor, might be the order of the day here. Even feature-wise, TVS will not splurge on its customers and instead might go for a simple LCD console with very limited connectivity features. Lastly, just like the TVS Jupiter, the upcoming electric scooter could be very convenient and extremely practical for day-to-day activities.
As for its pricing, TVS is expected to price it around or under ₹1 lakh, or at least less than the TVS iQube 2.2 kWh variant that is priced at ₹94,434 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This again echoes the strategy that the market is following in the recent months. For example, Bajaj Auto launched the new Chetak 3503 variant earlier this year priced at ₹1.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
