Bajaj Chetak has achieved sales of 5,10,000 units since its debut in 2020, marking a big milestone for the reimagined electric version of the legendary scooter nameplate.
Bajaj Auto has celebrated a big milestone, with its Chetak electric scooter surpassing 5,10,000 units sold since its launch in January 2020.
Notably, over 40% of these sales, amounting to 2,06,366 units, were recorded since November 2024, reflecting a strong resurgence.
The achievement is particularly impressive given recent supply chain hurdles, including a rare-earth magnet shortage that temporarily paused Chetak production.
Despite this, Bajaj maintained its position among India’s top-selling electric scooters, though it briefly lost ground to the TVS iQube. With production now stabilised, sales recovery is anticipated in the coming months.
The Chetak took 46 months to hit the 1,00,000-unit mark, but recent momentum shows accelerated demand.
Bajaj’s success stems from its diverse Chetak lineup, featuring four variants across 3kWh and 3.5kWh battery options, priced between ₹99,900 and ₹1.35 lakh ex-showroom, India. The company’s extensive network of over 3,800 service touchpoints across India has bolstered customer trust.
In the 20 months since April 2024, 3,48,251 units were dispatched, with the last 2,00,000 units reaching dealers in under 10 months.
The milestone underscores the rising popularity of electric scooters in India, potentially influencing competitors to enhance their offerings.
Bajaj’s recovery from supply issues could set a benchmark for resilience, boosting the domestic EV market’s growth as it addresses infrastructure and production challenges.
