The mileage advantage that a CNG bike will have on offer, is sure to give you the freedom to cover endless miles.
As Bajaj gears up for the launch of the world’s first CNG motorcycle, the Chakan-based manufacturer has broken the silence on the name of the bike: the Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG.
While the name does herald back to the days when LML used to sell the Freedom in the early 2000s. However, earlier this year, Bajaj had secured its trademark, along with a bunch of other names, including Badal and Aura. We had an inkling that Bajaj was looking to use one of these names and we are glad that the bike is carrying the ‘Freedom’ moniker.
At the launch of the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z, the brand’s CEO Rajiv Bajaj, had stated that the Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG would have mileage almost double that of current 125 cc motorcycles. This in a way is an attempt at redefining the whole “fill it, shut it, forget it” mantra.
Thereby, we can safely say that by naming the bike after something that stands for liberation, the Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG will indeed give customers the freedom to cover long distances without the unnecessary worry of refueling, every now and then. It remains to be seen how large the CNG tank will be, and consequently, what the fuel economy would be.
Earlier teaser images had confirmed that the Bajaj Freedom will be available with dual-fuel mode, allowing the rider to alter between the two fuels by a switch located on the handlebar. However, the bike will primarily run on CNG, and the petrol tank (which will be smaller compared to immediate rivals) will act as a limp mode in emergency situations.
Along with that, the bike will ride on alloy wheels, built around a tubular cradle frame and will be suspended by a telescopic fork and monoshock. Braking duties will be carried out by a disc/drum brake combination.
Being a commuter motorcycle, the Bajaj Freedom will look like one too without any fancy design. However, as per the latest teaser videos, we can confirm that it will be available with Blue paint option. Along with that, it might also be available in two variants.
Given that Bajaj is set to disrupt the 125 cc commuter motorcycle segment with the Bajaj Freedom CNG bike, we expect it to launch with quite the competitive price tag, somewhere around the ₹90,000 (ex-showroom) mark.
