Shift in market safety preference leads to discontinuation of a less safer variant which is priced ₹ 5000 less.
Bajaj Auto has officially discontinued the single-channel ABS variant of the Bajaj Pulsar N160. Launched just last year, the Pulsar N160 initially came in two variants, with the single-channel ABS variant priced at ₹ 1,22,854 (ex-showroom) and the dual-channel ABS variant at ₹ 1,27,853 (ex-showroom).
The aspect of this discontinuation lies in the shift of consumer preferences towards enhanced safety features. The difference in cost between the two variants was a modest ₹ 5,000, a relatively small amount when considering the safety offered by the dual-channel ABS. Our sources indicate that a substantial majority of customers swiftly gravitated towards the dual-channel ABS variant, resulting in a decline in demand for the single-channel ABS option. As a consequence, the single-channel ABS variant was phased out a few months ago.
As of now, the Bajaj Pulsar N160 is exclusively available with dual-channel ABS, retailing at ₹ 1,30,560 (ex-showroom Delhi). The bike is offered in three colours: Brooklyn Black, Racing Red, and Caribbean Blue. Importantly, all three colour options are priced the same, providing customers choices without impacting their budget.
Bajaj Pulsar N160 is powered by a 164.82 cc, single-cylinder, air-oil-cooled engine that churns out an impressive 16 bhp and 14.65 Nm of torque. Sharing its platform with the Bajaj Pulsar N250, the N160 exhibits nearly identical features, bodywork, and colour options. Positioned to compete with other popular models in its segment, including the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V, Yamaha FZ-S Fi V3.0, Suzuki Gixxer, and the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, the Pulsar N160 continues to stand as a strong contender in the 160cc motorcycle category.
While the discontinuation of the single-channel ABS variant signifies a strategic move by Bajaj Auto to align with consumer preferences for enhanced safety, it also reflects the dynamic nature of the motorcycle market. As riders increasingly prioritise safety features, manufacturers respond by refining their offerings to meet changing demand.
