After several spy shots and teasers, the new Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z has finally been revealed. The most expensive Pulsar to date, it is also the most aggressively priced sub-400 cc bike in the market at a mouth-watering ₹ 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Bookings for the new naked streetfighter have commenced today for a token amount of ₹5000, across all showrooms. The introductory price will be valid for valid for a limited period only
The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z debuts a new radical design and yet bears some similarities with the Pulsar NS200s. Moreover, we even find a slight resemblance to the existing Pulsar N250. Especially with the front section, wherein the projector LED headlamp and the overall shape of the headlight cowl display such similarities. But with new bigger lightning-bolt-styled LED DRLs, coupled with extensive cuts and creases, the resultant appeal is quite aggressive. Coupled with the 43 mm upside-down fork and chunky 110/70 R17 front tyre, the bike looks quite muscular as well. But from the tank onwards to the tail section, there is some uncanny resemblance with the existing Pulsar NS200. The tail section also looks similar, but with a slightly different-looking LED tail light, the resultant aesthetics is slightly more premium.
Built around the same perimeter frame that also underpins the Bajaj Dominar 400 -- is given away by the exposed frame panel right above the engine section. However, suspension duties remain the same with a 43 mm USD fork, and monoshock with 6-step adjustability. The bike rides on 17-inch wheels which are shod with 110/70 17 and 140/70 17-inch tyres, front and rear. Braking duties are taken care of by a single 320 mm disc with double-piston axially mounted calipers, and a 230 mm disc for the rear wheel with a single-piston caliper. The clutch lever and brake lever also get a 5-step adjustability function as standard.
Just like the Bajaj Dominar 400, the new Pulsar NS400Z is powered by the same KTM-sourced 373 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. With the naked streetfighter, Bajaj has gone for the same tune as well at 39.45 bhp/ 35 Nm tune. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox, coupled with a slipper clutch assist. As for its performance, Bajaj claims that the Pulsar NS400Z can reach a top speed of 154 kmph.
Being the flagship Pulsar NS model, the new Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z debuts a new LCD-TFT fully digital instrument cluster that supports smartphone connectivity. While the left side of the console displays the tachometer, odometer, speedometer, gears, fuel level, etc. The small LCD insert on the left is for the turn-by-turn navigation and call/SMS alert, music playback. It also gets ride-by-wire throttle control, along with four ride modes- Road, Rain, Sport, and Off-road. Switchable traction control with an off-road mode and dual-channel ABS are available as standard as well.
At ₹ 1.85 lakh, the new Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is quite aggressively priced, especially in the 350-400 cc segment. It very well undercuts the Triumph Speed 400, and even the Bajaj Dominar 400, which are its two natural competitors. Additionally, given the performance on offer here, it can also take on the likes of the KTM 250 Duke, and the TVS Apache RTR 310.
