Egypt formally recognises quadricycles as public transportation.
Bajaj Auto has begun the export of its quadricycle, the Qute, to Egypt after the country passed a new draft that formally recognises these forms of vehicles as public transportation. The Pune-based automaker already has a strong presence in the country with its three-wheeler products.
However, after Egypt banned the import of three-wheelers, Bajaj’s export took a serious hit. But later on in March 2024, the Egyptian parliament approved the draft law that led to the creation of a new vehicle category in the form of quadricycles.

Available in both bi-fuel CNG and LPG variants, the Bajaj Qute is powered by a 216 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 13.2 bhp and 18.9 Nm. Along the sidelines, Bajaj Auto is also working to electrify the Qute, details about the same are still under wraps.
At the moment, Bajaj has till now exported a total of 27,393 units of the Qute since it began exports in October 2015, as per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). In India, the quadricycle has sold 3,155 units since its launch in 2019. Interestingly, while the Qute was initially brought here for commercial use, Bajaj also saw customers buying it for personal use as well. With the export business restarting in Egypt, Bajaj aims to further bolster its presence in the country, and subsequently follow it up with updated iterations of the same – the upcoming electric Bajaj Qute will be one such example.
