The French manufacturer aims to remain a noteworthy player in the Indian automotive market
Renault’s partnership with Nissan might be nearing its end stage but that is not stopping the French marque to seek out a new partner. And it has likely found one in the form of the JSW Group with the two in early talks of a joint venture for the Indian market. JSW already owns a 31 per cent stake in MG Motors India (a joint venture with China’s SAIC Motor Group) and it will be interesting to note how it would balance its priorities.
Before Renault and Nissan were a thing, the French car maker had initially joined hands with Mahindra to build the Logan sedan in India. The car was not that successful and the two dissolved their alliance. Renault did go solo for a while in India and as its global strategies would align with the Japanese manufacturer, so did the two start sharing their Indian ambitions.

Sadly, the two couldn’t capitalise and are currently struggling in their own right. Renault is managing to sell around 38,000 units annually, which is hardly worth commending. With this likely new venture with JSW we might hopefully see the resurgence of the brand, especially when it is going to bring cars like the Duster and the Bigster to our market. The former was quite popular before its demise and hopefully the new-gen Duster does deliver again on the all-round capabilities it offered. We had a chance to drive the new Duster internationally and you can get a feeler for it by checking out the video below:
