BharatBenz offers a 6-year/6-lakh km powertrain warranty, 24x7 roadside assistance, and guaranteed parts availability within 24–48 hours to enhance the BB1924 competitiveness.
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has announced the launch of the BB1924, a new 19.5-tonne heavy-duty intercity bus targeted at India’s expanding long-distance passenger transport market. With the country’s bus industry valued at over USD 51 billion and growing at a CAGR of 5.36% through 2030, the new model is aimed at operators seeking greater payload capacity, lower ownership costs, and enhanced reliability.
Speaking at the launch, Andamuthu Ponnusamy, Head of Bus Business, DICV, said, “The BB1924 represents a paradigm shift in how we think about intercity mobility. By combining advanced safety features, industry-leading localization, and a focus on total cost of ownership, BharatBenz sets a benchmark for value and reliability in intercity mobility.” He added that extensive field trials across major corridors such as Mumbai–Pune, Delhi–Jaipur, and Chennai–Bangalore have delivered significant reductions in operating costs compared to existing alternatives.
The BB1924 will be available for sale across all 398 authorized touchpoints of Bharat Benz. The company has collaborated with 15+ leading banks and NBFCs, including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Bajaj Finserv, to offer competitive financing solutions with interest rates beginning at 8.5% per annum and flexible EMIs of up to five years.
To enhance long-term value, the model is supported by a 6-year/6-lakh km powertrain warranty, 24x7 roadside assistance, and guaranteed parts availability within 24–48 hours. Predictive maintenance through IoT-based telematics, regional-language training programs for drivers and technicians, and optional AMC packages further improve fleet efficiency and uptime.
The BB1924 is powered by a BS-VI OBD-II OM926 six-cylinder diesel engine, producing 241 hp and 850 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed synchromesh gearbox optimized for highway cruising. With a 19,500 kg GVW, it can accommodate up to 51+1+1 seats, improving revenue potential for operators. A 380-litre fuel tank enables a driving range of over 1,300 km, ideal for long routes. The model also features front and rear pneumatic suspension with anti-roll bars and is engineered for a service life of 10–15 years.
Safety is a key focus area for the BB1924. The bus is equipped with ABS, Electronic Vehicle Stability Control (EVSC), and a CAN-based electromagnetic retarder with a 5-stage control mechanism. The high-tensile steel chassis ensures robust crash protection, while factory-fitted Michelin radial tubeless tyres enhance traction and durability. Additional systems such as cruise control, brake hold assist, and TFT-based driver warnings further strengthen operational safety.
