GreenCell Mobility has deployed 75 electric buses in Puducherry to support zero-emission public transport and strengthen sustainable urban mobility infrastructure.
GreenCell Mobility, the parent company of NueGo, has announced the deployment of 75 electric buses in Puducherry, marking a step forward in the Union Territory’s shift towards zero-emission public transport. The rollout was recently highlighted during a government event led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The project includes a fleet of 25 nine-metre and 50 twelve-metre air-conditioned electric buses designed for both standard and trunk route operations. Developed in collaboration with EKA Mobility, the buses are equipped with higher battery capacity to support operational efficiency in urban conditions.
The fleet will operate from the Mettupalayam Bus Depot and is expected to improve last-mile connectivity while enhancing the reliability and quality of public transport services across key corridors. The introduction of electric buses is also aimed at reducing tailpipe emissions and strengthening sustainable transport infrastructure in the region.
Each bus is fitted with advanced systems including an Integrated Transport Management System, passenger information displays, real-time vehicle tracking, surveillance cameras and accessibility features for differently-abled passengers.
GreenCell Mobility stated that the deployment aligns with its broader objective of building sustainable public transport ecosystems across emerging urban centres in India.
Beyond Puducherry, the company is implementing electric bus projects across multiple states including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Delhi. It also operates intercity electric buses for Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation.
