Pre-bookings of the electric mini-bike had commenced a while back
BMW is getting ready to bring its CE 02 mini electric motorcycle to India by the end of September. The German auto giant has already started accepting bookings for the same and even teased its arrival a couple of times on social media. Here’s what one should look forward to from the electric two-wheeler:
India hasn’t had much success with the monkey bike format. Honda has refused to bring in the Grom so far and instead gave us a diluted Navi. The CE 02 is somewhat a more authentic adaptation of the bike format with quirkiness oozing from every angle. It is distinctively unique and has just the right blend of weird and coolness to it.
BMW co-developed this CE 02 platform with TVS. Hence, the electric powertrain is familiar. On the CE 02, you will get a 2 kWh battery pack that powers the electric motor to generate a peak power of 11 kW. This will help the CE 02 reach a top speed of 95 kmph, which is decently peppy. However, the small battery pack means range will be limited to just 90 km.
The LED lighting does add to the radical look of the small CE 02. The exposed handlebar bears the colour-TFT screen that acts as the control centre for its operations. It has its own dedicated smartphone app with a smartphone holder also available to double up for an additional screen by using the cradle mode. Lastly, you also find a USB Type-C charging slot.

Since the CE 02 is manufactured at TVS’ Hosur plant itself, we aren’t expecting it to carry an astronomically high price tag. In European markets, it costs €8,500 (equivalent to ₹ 7.72 lakh). But for India, we expect it to be closer to the ₹5 lakh mark, which while being lesser than Europe, still is a lot of money for such a niche product. For the same, you could get quite a few electric scooters or even a single Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2.
