The CE 04 will be the most expensive electric scooter to go on sale in India.
BMW Motorrad has confirmed the launch of the CE 04 electric scooter in India. The new electric scooter will make its India debut on July 24 and will be the first EV two-wheeler from the German brand to go on sale in our country. The BMW CE 04 is manufactured in Germany unlike the BMW CE 02 which is built in India by TVS Motor at its Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu. The fact that it will be brought to our shores via the CBU route, pricing would be very high. The BMW CE 04 currently retails for £12,850 (₹13.58 lakh) and with the added taxes, it will easily be the most expensive electric scooter to ever go on sale in India.
The styling of the CE 04 is very unique and it looks like something from the future or a scooter that will feel at home in a sci-fi flick. Underneath the exquisite bodywork sits an electric motor with a peak output of 31 kW and 61 Nm. Despite being hefty at 231 kg, the CE 04 can sprint from 0-50 kmph in 2.6 seconds and has a top speed of 120 kmph (limited). So in terms of performance, the BMW electric scooter does seem up to the task.
Now let’s turn our attention to the battery pack and it features an 8.5 kWh battery unit. BMW claims a range of 130 km, which isn’t particularly impressive when one considers Indian electric scooters such as the Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube and the Ather 450. With a 2.3 kW standard charger, the BMW electric scooter takes 4 hrs and 20 mins for a full charge, whereas the optional 6.9 kW does the same in one hour less.
The BMW CE 04 rides on 15-inch wheels and the chassis is suspended on a telescopic fork and a side-mounted monoshock unit. Seat height is pretty low at 780 mm and it gets disc brakes on both ends. Talking about features, the BMW electric scooter gets all-LED lighting, a massive 10.25-inch TFT display, keyless ignition, three riding modes, a traction control system and also reverse functionality.
As mentioned before, the BMW CE 04 will be the most premium and expensive electric scooter to go on sale in India. Whether this eccentric electric scooter finds takers is something only time will answer but let’s not forget that the BMW C 400 GT scooter was launched at ₹11.25 lakh (ex-showroom) and it was sold out!
