BMW has just unveiled its latest electric SUV, the iX3, built on its Neue Klasse platform. It’s expected to make its debut in India in 2027, and BMW India will assemble the iX3 at its plant in Chennai.

This won’t be the first electric SUV that BMW India assembles in Chennai, as that would be the iX1 long wheelbase (LWB), which launched in India earlier this year. By assembling the iX3 in India, BMW can price the electric SUV quite competitively, just like it could with the iX1 LWB.

The iX1 standard wheelbase was quite expensive in India when it was brought to market as a completely built unit (CBU) import, as it was priced at ₹66.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). With the localisation, BMW India was able to be very aggressive with the pricing strategy for the iX1 LWB. The locally assembled version is now priced at ₹49.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Despite being much more affordable, BMW was able to extend the wheelbase and make it cater to the Indian market in a more enhanced manner.

As of now, there’s no indication of how BMW India will price the iX3, but expect it to cost around ₹70 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Will BMW India offer the iX3 with a longer wheelbase than the global-spec model? That’s something that we’ll only know closer to the launch of the India-spec iX3.
