The Indian passenger vehicle market recorded 549,019 units sold in October 2025, marking a 10.8% increase from the previous year's 495,652 units, according to Vahan data. The month saw Maruti Suzuki India Limited maintaining its lead position, followed by Tata Motors at the second spot, with both manufacturers capturing significant portions of the overall market share.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited held the first position with 238,511 units sold in October 2025, representing 43.4% of the total market share. The company witnessed a month-on-month growth of 94.2% compared to September 2025, when it had sold 122,832 units. On a year-on-year basis, Maruti Suzuki registered a growth of 17.4% when compared to October 2024's sales of 203,199 units.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles secured the second position with 66,771 units sold during the month. The company captured 12.2% of the total market share in October 2025. Tata Motors achieved 96.1% month-on-month growth from September 2025's 34,046 units and registered 12.7% year-on-year growth compared to October 2024's 59,241 units. This performance marks a continuation of Tata Motors' recovery in the passenger vehicle segment.

Hyundai Motor India Limited placed third with 65,043 units, holding 11.8% market share. The company recorded 82.3% month-on-month growth from September's 35,670 units but showed a year-on-year decline of 7.3% from October 2024's 70,171 units.

Mahindra and Mahindra Limited secured the fourth position with 62,740 units sold, representing 11.4% market share. The company registered 84.8% month-on-month growth from September's 33,943 units and 1.9% year-on-year growth from October 2024's 61,544 units.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor recorded 33,485 units, claiming 6.1% market share. The company achieved 14.2% year-on-year growth from October 2024's 29,328 units.

Kia India Private Limited sold 32,736 units, capturing 6.0% market share with 9.9% year-on-year growth from October 2024's 29,780 units.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen registered 12,054 units, holding 2.2% market share, whilst maintaining 34.3% year-on-year growth.
Honda Cars India Limited recorded 7,167 units, representing 1.3% market share, though this reflected a 3.0% year-on-year decline from October 2024's 7,389 units.

Tata Passenger Electric achieved 7,100 units, capturing 1.3% market share and registering 8.0% year-on-year growth from October 2024's 6,576 units.
JSW MG Motor India Pvt Limited sold 5,753 units, representing 1.0% market share, with a 2.5% year-on-year decline from October 2024's 5,902 units.
The data reveals patterns across September, October and the year-on-year comparison. September 2025 saw 294,580 units sold, whilst October 2025 recorded 549,019 units, indicating a significant uptick in sales during the month. The month-on-month growth across manufacturers ranged from 62.9% to 116.0%, with most companies recording expansion from September levels.
Comparing August and September 2025 performance, the market appeared to be experiencing gradual growth, with October demonstrating acceleration. Year-to-date figures for 2025 show the market at 3,602,397 units compared to 3,403,792 units for the same period in 2024, representing 5.8% year-to-date growth.
Tata Motors' performance stands out with its 96.1% month-on-month growth in October, indicating recovery and market response. Similarly, Mahindra and Mahindra showed 84.8% month-on-month expansion, whilst Hyundai recorded 82.3% growth. These figures point to increased customer purchasing activity in October compared to September.
On year-on-year basis, Tata Motors registered 12.7% growth, positioning it as one of the manufacturers recording growth in the segment. Mahindra and Mahindra achieved 1.9% year-on-year growth, demonstrating stable performance. Hyundai, however, recorded a 7.3% year-on-year decline, with sales of 65,043 units in October 2025 compared to 70,171 units in October 2024.
The overall market share distribution shows Maruti Suzuki holding 40.8% market share year-to-date, followed by Mahindra at 12.5%, Hyundai at 12.7%, and Tata Motors at 10.9%. This distribution underlines the concentration of sales amongst the top four manufacturers, who collectively represent the majority of the market.
Other performers including Renault India, Nissan Motor India and Mercedes-Benz India registered year-on-year growth rates ranging from 3.2% to 12.6%, demonstrating capacity for expansion within market segments they serve.
The October 2025 figures, sourced from Vahan data, showcase a market continuing to record growth compared to the previous year, with variations in performance across manufacturers reflecting different market positioning and product offerings.
