BYD Extends Blade Battery Warranty to 250,000 km Across Europe

BYD has reinforced its commitment to long-term electric vehicle ownership in Europe by significantly extending the mileage coverage on its Blade Battery warranty. The revised policy now offers protection for eight years or 250,000 km, an increase from the earlier 150,000 km limit, while retaining the same time period and a guaranteed minimum battery health of 70%.

The updated warranty applies across the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Importantly, BYD has confirmed that the change is not limited to future customers.

Existing owners of BYD battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids will also receive the enhanced coverage automatically, strengthening trust in the brand’s ownership experience over the long term.

The Blade Battery sits at the centre of BYD’s electric vehicle strategy and is standard across all BYD passenger vehicles sold in Europe. It uses lithium iron phosphate chemistry, chosen for its durability, safety and resistance to thermal stress.

BYD states that the Blade Battery has demonstrated the ability to exceed 3,000 full charge cycles, which could translate to a real-world driving lifespan of up to 1.2 million kilometres under typical usage conditions.

This extended battery coverage adds to BYD’s already comprehensive warranty package in Europe. Customers also receive a six-year or 150,000 km basic vehicle warranty, an anti-perforation warranty lasting 12 years with no mileage restriction, and eight years or 150,000 km of coverage for the electric drive unit.

Together, these policies are designed to reduce ownership anxiety and highlight BYD’s confidence in the durability of its core components.

BYD has clarified that the revised battery warranty does not apply to vehicles used for mobility or ride-hailing services, models operating under special fleet warranty agreements, or the BYD ETP3 commercial vehicle.
