The Seal EV will be BYD's third product for the Indian market
BYD has announced that it will launch the Seal EV on March 5, 2024 in India. The Seal was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 and was scheduled to be launched in India soon, and now we finally have a date for its launch. The company already has the Atto 3 and the E6 (for commercial use) in its portfolio and now with the Seal sedan, it’s targeting a different segment. The fact that it's a World Car finalist this year, also talks about how well it has been received globally.
The Seal EV is a sedan which is 4,800mm long, 1,875mm wide and 1,460mm tall. The design cues have been taken from the Ocean X concept which was first showcased in 2021, which followed the company’s ocean aesthetics design language.
The Seal gets a couple-like all glass roof and the 4 boomerang shaped LED DRLs give it a signature look. The split headlamp design too is unique and at the rear, there’s an LED light bar that runs the width of the sedan.
The BYD Seal cabin will be a lot sleeker than the Atto 3 but it will continue to get the same rotating 15.6-inch infotainment system which has won the Best Interface/Infotainment System at the 2023 AckoDrive awards.
There’s a 10.25 -inch digital screen for the driver as well, which gives a lot of information with great clarity. There is a lot of similarity in the way in which the dashboard looks when compared to the Atto 3 SUV and the clever bits include the speakers that are integrated into the door handles.
The BYD Seal is available with two battery pack options globally, but India is likely to get the 82.5 kWh pack with the dual motor set up. Expect a combined power output of more than 525 bhp, while there will be 670 Nm of torque on offer. 0-100 kmph will be possible in just 3.8 seconds and yes it will have AWD.
The range of the BYD seal is 700 km on a single charge
The BYD Seal will take on the Hyundai Ioniq5 and the Kia EV6 electric cars head on and we expect the price to be in the range of Rs. 50 lakh.
