This joint initiative plan will be established and have a budget outlay of ₹100 crore.

The Ministry of Electronics And Information Technology (MeitY) and the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) have collaborated to form Joint Call For Proposals which will oversee research and development initiatives to develop electric vehicle subsystems. This joint initiative was disclosed at a ceremony held at the Electronics Niketan, New Delhi. Via this newly launched programme, the main initiative will be to create Indian-made components that will focus on EV chargers and charging infrastructures, motors and drive systems, battery and battery management systems, along with testing and prototype facilities, and safety and security systems.

As part of this new initiative, the Central government will specifically target projects that will be ready for commercial use, beside meeting high technology readiness standards. Moreover, these new technologies should also be cost-effective and must use India-made components.

Speaking on this occasion, Shri S Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, said that “The Innovators and Researchers in collaboration with industry and academia can boost the technology development and make available Indigenous product for EV Ecosystem” and Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, MHI stated that “MeitY-MHI joint call for proposal will enhance the development of Indigenous technologies in the EV sector”
