Chandrayaan-3 soft landing on the Moon's South Pole will commence later today. ISRO's third attempt to achieve a soft landing on the moon is a follow-up to the Chandrayaan-2 mission, which led to the crash of its lander while attempting descent on the moon in 2019.

With Chandrayaan-3, ISRO aims to gather crucial data about the Moon's South Polar region, which has remained relatively unexplored. The Chandrayaan-3 was launched from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on July 14.

On August 5, the spacecraft was successfully inserted into the lunar orbit, following which the lander was separated from the module. The controlled descent of the Chandrayaan-3 is scheduled to begin at 5:45 PM IST, and the touchdown is expected shortly after at 6:04 PM IST.
