Citroën India is set to launch its newest addition to the compact SUV segment, the Citroën Basalt, on August 9, 2024. This marks the French automaker's fifth model in India and the fourth developed under the C-Cubed program. The Basalt is designed to compete in the highly-competitive compact SUV market, alongside rivals like the upcoming Tata Curvv, which is slated for a launch on September 2, 2024.

Visually, the Citroën Basalt retains much of the front-end styling of the C3 Aircross, with notable updates including a body-coloured finish on the black panel connecting the headlamps. The Basalt features the same LED DRL signature and split headlamp design but upgrades the lighting system from halogen to LED. The design diverges significantly from the C3 Aircross from the A-pillar back, with distinctively different taillamps at the rear.
Inside, the Basalt offers a range of modern features aimed at enhancing driver and passenger experience. It includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and automatic climate control. Unique to the automatic transmission variants is a seat tilt cushion that improves under-thigh support for rear passengers. Safety enhancements are prominent, with the use of ultra-high-strength steel in the structure and the standard inclusion of six airbags.

The Citroën Basalt is available with two engine options. The first is a 1.2-litre petrol engine delivering 81 bhp and 115 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The second option is a more powerful 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 109 bhp and 190 Nm of torque (205 Nm with the automatic transmission), available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Upon its launch, the Citroën Basalt will face stiff competition from established models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, MG Astor, and Honda Elevate, as well as its sibling, the C3 Aircross, and the soon-to-be-launched Tata Curvv.
