The production version of the Basalt looks very similar to the concept shown in March 2024.
Citroën India has showcased the first images of the upcoming Basalt coupe SUV. The production version looks very similar to the concept, Basalt Vision, that was showcased in March. Interestingly, Citroën has not shared images of the front of the Basalt.
From the back, the production version looks very similar to the concept. It has the same stubby design for the tailgate as the Basalt Vision concept. It has the same C-shape design as the taillamps, which also has a 3D effect. The two horizontal lines in the tailamps are connected through the creases in the tailgate, and the Citroën Chevron logo is housed between these two creases. The upper portion of the tailgate acts as an integrated spoiler.
During a media interaction, Citroën designers mentioned that they worked hard to have the tailgate as a single piece that stretches from the top to the bumper. The number plate is housed in the rear bumper which also houses a flush-fitting faux skid plate finished in Silver.
Moving to the side, the Basalt’s alloy wheel design looks very similar to the concept but is smaller in dimensions. While Citroën has not revealed the wheel size of the production version, the Basalt could come with either 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels by the looks of it. The overall profile of the Basalt also hasn’t changed as it gets the same squarish wheel arches as the concept. The kink aft of the rear window, the placement of the fuel filler cap, and the creases on the doors remain the same too. It retains the same bulges above the rear windscreen along with the shark fin antenna.
While Citroën hasn’t shared images of the front, it mentioned the Basalt will get a split headlamp setup that looks similar to the C3 Aircross. However, it will get LED projector headlamps which aren’t available on the C3 Aircross. Like the rear bumper, the front bumper will also have a flush-fitting faux skid plate finished in Silver.
The Citroën Basalt is expected to be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine as the C3 Aircross. It is expected to produce 109 bhp and 190 Nm (205 Nm with the automatic transmission) and come paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Upon launch, the Citroën Basalt will primarily rival the upcoming Tata Curvv that will be launching on August 7. Expect the prices of the Citroën Basalt to start around ₹12 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
