Over 200 RTX AI laptop models from top brands like Asus, MSI, Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo will ship in the coming months.

NVIDIA took to the stage at Computex 2024 to announce a major push into AI computing for consumer laptops and applications. The new lineup of "GeForce RTX AI Laptops" is powered by NVIDIA's latest RTX GPUs and AI acceleration technologies.

Over 200 RTX AI laptop models from top brands like Asus, MSI, Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and others will ship with GPU-accelerated AI capabilities. These include hardware-accelerated support for AI image generation via apps like Stable Diffusion, large language model (LLM) acceleration for on-device text generation, and performance-boosting AI features for games and creative apps.

NVIDIA says the RTX GPUs in these laptops can deliver up to 686 trillion operations per second (TOPS) on AI workloads, dramatically outpacing the AI performance of current mobile CPUs and NPUs. For example, the new Asus TUF Gaming A14 laptop with an RTX 4070 GPU can hit 371 TOPS for AI, which NVIDIA claims is over seven times faster than Apple's M3 Max chip on some AI benchmarks.

Project

NVIDIA also demoed Project G-Assist, an AI assistant that can provide context-aware help and optimizations for games. It combines gameplay visuals, system telemetry data, and LLMs to generate personalized advice and settings recommendations.

NVIDIA has announced the RTX AI Toolkit with SDKs to help developers optimize AI models for GeForce GPUs. It's also opening up more of its RTX Remix modding platform, including making the core app open source.

In collaboration with Microsoft, NVIDIA will add GPU acceleration to the Windows Copilot Runtime, allowing developers to tap into high-performance on-device language models across Windows apps and services.

While Windows PCs will soon gain broad AI capabilities through Microsoft's Copilot, NVIDIA is positioning RTX AI as a way to run more demanding generative AI tasks locally on high-end gaming laptops and creative workstations. The first wave of RTX AI laptops from partners like Asus and MSI will arrive for the 2024 holiday season.
