The Odd-Even rule will be implemented from November 13-20.
The Government of Delhi has implemented the odd-even rule in Delhi and it will come into effect from November 13-20. This has been implemented to curb the rising pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR) amid the worsening air quality. Delhi has been named the most polluted city in the world by Swiss Group IQAir.
Under the odd-even rule, cars with odd-numbered registrations will be permitted to ply on the roads on odd-numbered dates and even-numbered cars can ply on the road on even-numbered dates. While this is applicable till November 20, the Government of Delhi could extend this rule if the pollution levels do not improve.
This is further to the Commission for Air Quality Management’s (CAQM) directive to implement the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage III and Stage IV to curb the rising pollution in the NCR. The CAQM has restricted the entry of Bharat Stage (BS) III petrol and BS-IV diesel cars in the NCR. Any vehicles found flouting the directive will be fined ₹20,000 and will be fined under Section 194(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1998.
