More than 500 challans were issued to BS III petrol and BS IV diesel vehicles after the Delhi Government banned them in the city.
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued more than 500 challans, as per a new report by Press Trust of India. With these challans, the Delhi Traffic Police imposed a fine of over ₹1 crore to Bharat Stage (BS) III petrol and BS IV diesel on Friday. The Government of Delhi recently implemented the third stage of the Graded Action Response Plan (GRAP) and these fines were imposed on the first day.
Furthermore, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued challans to 4,855 vehicles, imposing a fine of nearly ₹4.8 crore for not having Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. Not having the PUC certificate leads to a fine of ₹10,000. Plying BS III petrol and BS IV diesel cars in Delhi & NCR was banned from Friday and drivers who violated this ban were fined ₹20,000.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rajiv Kumar Rawal said that around 3,000 vehicles were checked in three ranges. He added, “We have intensified checking especially in the bordering areas and the inter-state buses are also being checked. Vehicles whose entry is prohibited are being turned back from the borders. We have returned around 300 such vehicles. We are also prosecuting the vehicles which do not have a PUCC.”
The Government of Delhi has banned construction activities, staggered government office timings, banned private BS III petrol and BS IV diesel vehicles and prohibited entry of interstate non-electric-CNG buses as the condition of air pollution deteriorates in the national capital.
