Elon Musk confirmed Cybercab production will start Q2 2026 at Giga Texas. Fully autonomous, it features no steering wheel or pedals, marking Tesla’s major push into robotaxis.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has set a firm timeline for the Cybercab's production during the company's Q3 2025 Earnings Call, quashing speculation about design compromises.
Production of the fully autonomous, two-seater robotaxi will commence in the second quarter of 2026 at Tesla's Giga Texas facility, marking what Musk called "the single biggest expansion in production."
Unveiled in October 2024 as an affordable, steering-wheel-free vehicle optimized for unsupervised autonomy, the Cybercab aims to slash operational costs per mile through its pedal-less, mirror-free design.
Addressing community rumours fueled by leaked images showing a Cybercab prototype with apparent manual controls on Tesla property, Musk firmly clarified that no such features will be included.
"The Cybercab will not have a steering wheel or pedals," he reiterated, attributing the sightings to early testing mules or unrelated vehicles. This stance aligns with Tesla's push toward a driverless future, amid ongoing advancements like Fremont track testing and crash safety evaluations.
The announcement bolsters Tesla's robotaxi ambitions, with Musk projecting a fleet ramp-up in 2026–2027 alongside Full Self-Driving (FSD) software maturation. Recent hiring surges for the Cybercab production team underscore the project's acceleration from its initial late-2025 target.
Analysts view this as a confidence booster for Tesla's AI-driven mobility pivot, potentially reshaping urban transport economics.
As Tesla navigates regulatory hurdles and autonomy validation, the Q2 2026 start signals steady progress toward a $25,000–$30,000 price point, positioning the Cybercab as a cornerstone of the company's unsupervised ride-hailing network.
