The rider’s championship sees another major turn as defending champion Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia crashes out of home race

Another major twist in the 2024 MotoGP title as Enea Bastianini wins Ducati’s 100th MotoGP race at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in a rather controversial overtake on championship leader Jorge Martin on the final lap of the race. Bastianini dive bombed and slightly forced Martin into turn four at Misano circuit to win the race. As a result, Ducati has also clinched the 2024 constructors’ title, with 6 races left to go.

While Martin might feel robbed off the way he lost the win, he would ultimately turn out to be glad to be still leaving Italy as the championship leader with a very healthy 24 point lead into the next round in Indonesia. Martin’s main rival – current world champion Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia – crashed out chasing the duo, failing to score any points in the process. Despite winning the Sprint race on Saturday, Pecco didn’t seem to have the pace at all on Sunday, which was his 100th GP start. For the bulk of the race he was conserving and struggling with the rear tyre. And once he started speeding up, he seemed to have locked his front tyre and crashed out of the race.

As a result, Marc Marquez was promoted to third, the Spaniard securing yet another podium as he looks forward to the Asia leg of the championship. VR46 Ducati’s Marco Bezzecchi managed to keep his soft rear tyre intact for the latter part of the race to earn fourth spot. The highlight of the race had to be Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo as the Frenchman continued the Japanese bike maker’s progression through the field, finishing fifth, Yamaha’s best finish of the season.

6 rounds left in this tasty 2024 MotoGP championship with Pecco having a challenging 24 points to overcome to make sure he defends his title yet again, becoming a three-time MotoGP champion in the process. Martin was the strongest rider at the 2023 Indonesian GP for the majority of the race and hopefully, he doesn’t end up making a mistake and crash out in 2024. Will Bastianini and Marquez also play a key role in the 2024 fight considering they are not too far behind. The rider’s title is heading Ducati’s way too, just which Ducati camp remains to be seen.
