The spy shots show an entry- or mid-level variant as it doesn’t have alloy wheels or chrome accents.
Only the rear of the Basalt is visible in the spy shots and it can be seen without alloy wheels, chrome garnish on the bumpers and a shark fin antenna on the roof. This indicates it is not the top-spec variant, but rather an entry- or mid-level variant. Apart from this, the Basalt’s test mule looks very similar to the images shared by Citroën when it was globally revealed.
The Basalt can also be seen next to a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, giving an idea of the dimensions of the Coupe SUV. The Ertiga measures 1690 mm in height and the Citroën is nearly as tall. The maximum height of the Basalt could be around 1600 mm.
While the interior still remains a mystery, expect it to come with features like a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging and more. For safety, expect Citroën to offer six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, reverse camera, ISOFIX and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), among others
Under the hood, it is likely to come with the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine as the C3 Aircross. Citroën hasn’t revealed the power output yet, but it can be expected to remain unchanged at 109 bhp and 205 Nm. Expect a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission mated to the engine.
When launched, the Basalt will kickstart the Coupe SUV market in India and will rival the upcoming Tata Curvv as well as compact sedans like the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus. Expect it to be priced around ₹12-15 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
