This will be Maruti Suzuki’s first electric car in the Indian market

It is no secret that Maruti Suzuki’s first electric car will be arriving this year. And we already got our first look of the e Vitara at Auto Expo 2025. Recently, we managed to spot the upcoming electric SUV on our roads in an uncamouflaged avatar.

The e Vitara was first shown late last year in Milan with its maiden Indian appearance at the Auto Expo met with a lot of hype and anticipation. After all, Maruti has let a lot of its competitors invade the electric space already, with Tata and Mahindra already emerging as the future mobility solution darlings. Even Hyundai brought out its Creta Electric. Hence, it was high time that we see some action from the market leader.

However, before the car can step foot in India, exports of the e Vitara have already begun with UK prices announced very recently. Prices for the car begin at ₹35 lakh with the top end trim priced at a little over ₹44 lakh (all prices converted from GBP and without Indian taxes). No need to fret as much as the Indian prices are going to be considerably lower and competent, primarily because it will be made at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant.

The car is sold internationally with either a 49 kWh or a 61 kWh battery pack, the latter is confirmed for India. Whether or not Maruti decides to have the small battery option to make the asking price affordable remains to be seen. We expect the larger battery pack option to provide at least 500 km of range, even though there isn’t any official figure for the same shared as yet.

It was revealed that the 49 kWh battery pack would have 142 bhp and 189 Nm at its disposal, while the 61 kWh battery’s single-motor variant churns out 172 bhp and 189 Nm. There’s also an AWD variant, with the 61 kWh battery pack, which gets a 172 bhp front motor and a 64 bhp rear motor that combined produce 181 bhp and 300 Nm.

The launch of the car is expected to take place in September with the e Vitara going up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Harrier EV, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV and BYD Atto 3.
