Classic Legends’ co-founder Anupam Thareja has confirmed the BSA brand might have another Gold Star trim later this year.
Classic Legends is doing well with all three of its brands in 2024, aiming to make each one more distinguishable and iconic. At the launch of the new BSA Gold Star 650, the company’s co-founder, Anupam Thareja, mentioned to Acko Drive that there might be more from BSA this year itself.
“Gold Star is a crown jewel of a crown jewel that is BSA. And BSA had a much larger range, and there are great brands and sub-brands in BSA. There’s Golden Flash (and more) but I can’t tell you which brand will come. But the Gold Star will have another variant and then there will be other brands under BSA which you will see very soon from us,” shared Thareja.
So, what approach would BSA take with the next variant of the Gold Star 650? We think there are a few possible directions:
Currently, the Gold Star 650 is devoid of any features and technology that one would even find on 150-160 cc commuter bikes. Bits like LED lighting, digital screens, connectivity and more could be thrown into the mix. This would definitely attract a premium over the current model and will be sold in parallel. Perhaps, Classic Legends might even throw in an alloy wheel variant of the same, making it far more convenient for when the even puncture problem strikes.
There are a lot of imported bits on the Gold Star 650. It runs on Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp rubber and is anchored by Brembo braking hardware. The tyres as in our experience with other motorcycles, these particular Pirellis haven’t been the best suited for our Indian road conditions. Perhaps a pair of Vredestein Centauros could do the trick. The other imported bit on the Gold Star happens to be the tank insignia and Brembo brakes, which continues as it's.
This is wishful thinking on our part but one of the major conversions that the Gold Stars of yesteryears underwent were becoming clubmans racers. Since the new Gold Star will not be a race-oriented motorcycle, it can still show off its sporty side in the form of a factory custom cafe racer. We had seen a custom on display at the launch itself, and were left salivating at its prospect.
Whatever route BSA does decide to go, we shall be keen to find out. But prior to that, we should be getting our hands on this muscular British single and putting it through our usual test cycle pretty soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
