Two-wheeler sales registered double-digit growth this festive season.
The festive season brought about a cheer to two-wheeler dealers across the nation as sales of two-wheelers witnessed a sharp jump. In the first 10 days of the festive season ending on Dussehra (October 3-12), sales of two-wheelers increased by a massive 15.4% in comparison to the same time period last year as per details on the Vahan portal. The jump in sales during the festive period can be attributed to various factors such as attractive discounts from the manufacturers, good financing options and the introduction of new models. However, the major push has come from the rural market, which is good news for the automobile industry in general.
Owing to favourable monsoon, good farm output, government schemes and increased MSP (minimum support price) for crops, the rural market has witnessed a big revival. This can be clearly seen in the jump of commuter motorcycles, which had slowed down over the past few years, while scooter sales (more popular in urban markets) increased tremendously. In fact, the overall two-wheeler market has witnessed positive growth this year and it’s predicted that the market might bounce back to pre-COVID sales figures of 2019 (21 million units) by the end of this financial year. For the above to happen, the rural market will play a very crucial role as it accounts for over 50% of the overall two-wheeler sales in our country.

One particular segment that has witnessed tremendous growth in 2024 has been the 125 cc segment, with sporty commuters such as the TVS Raider and the Hero Xtreme 125 R performing really well. In fact, Bajaj Auto has plans to dominate this space and launched the Freedom 125 CNG bike earlier this year and recently the Bajaj Pulsar N125. With many new launches lined up for 2024, manufacturers and dealers will be keeping their fingers crossed for a bumper sales performance.
