Apple is preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market, with plans to launch its first foldable iPhone in 2026, a tipster said quoting Korean publication KIPOST. This would mark Apple's response to the growing foldable device segment currently dominated by manufacturers like Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola.
According to the Korean news outlet, as reported by industry leakster Jukanlosreve, Apple aims to initiate production of its maiden foldable iPhone in May 2025. The device is expected to feature a design similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series, incorporating a compact external display for routine tasks alongside a larger internal screen that provides a tablet-like experience when unfolded.

The iPhone maker has reportedly set ambitious production targets of 15-20 million units annually for the foldable device, which is anticipated to launch in September 2026, coinciding with the iPhone 18 series.
Samsung Display has been identified as the primary supplier of foldable OLED panels, continuing their established partnership with Apple's display technology requirements.
Recent industry analysis suggests Apple's broader strategy includes the development of two distinct foldable devices. The company is reportedly exploring a larger format device featuring a 19-inch display, complemented by a more compact foldable iPhone model that would offer a screen size exceeding that of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
While Apple has not officially confirmed these developments, multiple reports suggest that the device will incorporate advanced technology designed to surpass current market offerings, maintaining the company's reputation for innovation in the mobile device sector.
