In terms of design, there’s not much that’s changed with the outgoing model. The front still retains the traditional G-Wagen design with round LED headlamps and a large grille with a prominent Gurkha lettering at the centre. The Gurkha also sits on a higher ground clearance of 233 mm and 18-inch wheels instead of 17 inches from earlier. The off-road capability is also refined with 35-degree gradeability and 700 mm water-wading capability with a factory-fitted air intake snorkel. The new independent front suspension is also updated to offer improved ride quality.
Inside the 2024 Force Gurkha is a new digital instrumentation cluster and a 9-inch screen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This although needs an external app that mirrors the phone. The convenience features include electronically adjustable ORVMs and a start-stop function. Force is also offering an electronic shift for the 4WD system with 2H, 4H and 4L along with individual slip differential locks for the front and the rear.
Under the hood is a 2.6-litre, turbocharged diesel engine that develops 138 bhp and 320 Nm of torque, coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 3-door version weighs 2800 kg while the 5-door version is over 3 tonnes, Force says there’s an added 120 kg over the predecessor. There is no petrol engine on offer as of now.
For its rivals, the Mahindra offers 3 engine options- one petrol and two diesel. The 2.0-litre, mStallion petrol engine develops 150 bhp and 320 Nm, coupled to a 6-speed torque convertor gearbox, while the 2.2-litre, mHawk CRDe diesel engine develops 130 bhp and 300 Nm, coupled to a 6-speed manual, and a 6-speed torque convertor. There’s also a 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out 117 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. It is priced between Rs. 11.25 to Rs. 17.20 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that develops 120 bhp and 136 Nm of peak torque, coupled to a 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque convertor. Prices range between ₹ 12.74- ₹1 4.95 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
