Nissan has launched four limited edition versions of its flagship sports car, the GT-R, overseas. The venerable sports car gets Premium Edition T-spec, Track Edition, T-spec Takumi Edition and Skyline Edition. Most of these special editions get some sort of mechanical updates, while some get unique cosmetic updates.
The GT-R Premium Edition T-spec and Track Edition models get an updated version of the VR38DETT, 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine. It has high precision weight-balanced piston rings, connecting rods and crankshafts, which Nissan claims helps with ‘snappier revs and faster turbo spooling’. The T-spec Takumi Edition gets carbon ceramic brakes, Vehicle Dynamic Control and gold-plated 20-inch alloy wheels from NISMO (Nissan’s motorsports division).
Cosmetically, the Premium Edition T-spec gets a new Blue Heaven interior theme. The T-spec Takumi Edition and Skyline Edition models get Nissan GT-R’s iconic Midnight Purple and Bayside Blue paint options, iconic to the R34 generation of the Skyline GTR. The T-spec Takumi Edition gets a Mori Green interior, while the Skyline Edition gets a Sora Blue interior theme. All four limited edition models also get a VIN plate finished in Gold.
For the uninitiated, Takumi is a Japanese term that is used to describe master craftspeople who have honed their skills after years of experience. At Nissan’s engine factory in Yokohama, Japan, Takumis are responsible for assembling each VR38DETT engine by hand. The T-spec Takumi Edition celebrates those craftspeople.
The Premium Edition T-spec and Track Edition models are exclusive to Japan. The former is priced at 20.5 million yen (roughly ₹1.13 crore) and prices for the latter start at 18.5 million yen (roughly ₹1.02 crore). On the other hand, the T-spec Takumi Edition and Skyline Edition models are exclusively available in the USA and their prices are yet to be revealed.
