SiliconAuto, a Foxconn-backed automotive technology company, has announced the establishment of a new research and development (R&D) centre in Bengaluru, India. The centre will concentrate on semiconductor product design and system-on-chip (SoC) development, specifically tailored for the automotive sector. This strategic expansion highlights India’s growing role in the global automotive technology ecosystem and emphasises SiliconAuto’s commitment to driving innovation in electric vehicles (EVs), autonomous driving, and connected car technologies.

Together, these companies bring global expertise and technological leadership to the venture, aiming to advance semiconductor solutions for the evolving automotive industry.
In an official statement, Gene Liu, CEO of SiliconAuto, remarked on the significance of the new centre in Bengaluru. “This new centre embodies SiliconAuto’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the automotive industry. Our India team is set to drive forward our vision of a smarter and safer future for transportation. Bangalore, with its rich talent pool and thriving tech ecosystem, is the perfect location for our new design centre,” Liu said.
The Bengaluru R&D centre will play a critical role in the development of next-generation semiconductor technologies, which are crucial for the advancement of electric vehicles, autonomous driving systems, and connected car solutions. This initiative reflects the increasing demand for more sophisticated automotive technology as the industry moves toward electrification and automation.
SiliconAuto aims to position itself as a leader in semiconductor solutions that enable advancements in vehicle safety, efficiency, and connectivity. The company's work in SoC design is expected to enhance both hardware and software capabilities in vehicles, driving improvements in performance, battery management, and safety features.
The establishment of SiliconAuto’s R&D centre is part of Foxconn's broader expansion plans in India. Foxconn, which is in the process of setting up its electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in the country, is also exploring the possibility of building a battery manufacturing unit for EVs. These investments indicate Foxconn's strategic commitment to India as a key hub for its automotive and electronics businesses.
V Lee, Foxconn’s India representative, shared on social media that the new R&D centre in Bengaluru is positioned to accelerate the company’s innovative capabilities, supporting the development of advanced automotive technologies for its global operations, including for Stellantis.
