Taiwan's Hon Hai Technology Group, commonly known as Foxconn, has pledged to invest ₹15,000 crore in multiple manufacturing facilities across the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, according to an announcement from the state's industries minister TR B Rajaa, The Times Of India reported on Tuesday.
Though official project specifications remain under wraps, sources quoted by the report indicate the electronics giant's investment portfolio will likely include electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing alongside other advanced technology products.
The ambitious expansion plan is expected to generate employment opportunities for approximately 14,000 people across the state.
The investment commitment materialised following a key meeting between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and a Foxconn delegation headed by Robert Wu, who serves as the company's India representative and senior global executive. The meeting took place on Monday in Chennai.
In an unprecedented move, the Tamil Nadu government has approved the establishment of a specialised "Foxconn Desk" within Guidance TN, the state's primary agency responsible for industrial investment promotion and trade facilitation coordination. While Guidance TN currently operates country-specific assistance desks, this marks the first instance of a dedicated facility cell created exclusively for an individual corporation.
Robert Wu was quoted as expressing Foxconn's confidence in Tamil Nadu's industrial policies, talent pool, infrastructure readiness, and ease of doing business.
The significant investment announcement arrives at a critical time, as global manufacturing landscapes face tariff-related volatility and nations worldwide grapple with intensifying competition to secure foreign direct investment in the manufacturing sector.
