OP Mobility, which rebranded from its former identity as Plastic Omnium, specialises in producing automotive exterior components.

French automotive components manufacturer OP Mobility SE has announced plans for a substantial investment between $200 million-$300 million in India over a five-year period, targeting expansion of both its manufacturing facilities and engineering capabilities in the country, says a report by Economic Times.

OP Mobility, which rebranded from its former identity as Plastic Omnium, specialises in producing automotive exterior components, lighting module systems, and fuel management solutions for vehicle manufacturers.

Major Expansion Plan

Under the investment blueprint, OP Mobility will expand its Indian manufacturing network from five existing facilities to 10 plants. The expansion strategy also includes establishing a new technology development centre, positioning the company to capitalise on India's rapidly expanding automotive sector, which ranks among the fastest-growing globally.

"OPmobility is accelerating its development in India, the world’s third-largest automotive market, where the group aims at more than doubling its sales by 2030. Already operating five plants in India, OP Mobility inaugurates today the facility in Badhalwadi, in the State of Maharashtra, and has started construction of plant in Kharkhoda, in the State of Haryana," the company recently said in a statement

"Alongside these plant openings, OPmobility is reinforcing its local capabilities across engineering, digital and software development to serve customers in India and around the world."

The company currently generates approximately $250 million in annual revenue from its Indian operations. Its client portfolio includes prominent automobile manufacturers operating in the country: Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, Mahindra & Mahindra, the Renault-Nissan alliance, the Škoda-Volkswagen group, and Jaguar Land Rover.

Future-Focused Investments

A significant portion of the capital injection will be allocated toward advancing next-generation automotive technologies, specifically battery system development and hydrogen-based energy storage solutions, reflecting the industry's transition toward alternative powertrains.

OP Mobility maintains a presence across 28 countries, with the majority of its business operations conducted in markets beyond its French headquarters.
