Indian Gen Z is eager to experiment with diverse food trends.
A new report from Instagram and trend forecasting firm WGSN reveals that Gen Z in India will play a significant role in influencing culture and trends in the coming year. The report analyzed data from a survey of Gen Z respondents in several countries, shedding light on their priorities, interests and how they may impact various realms, including food, fashion, beauty and social media.
Some key findings show that Indian Gen Z is eager to experiment with diverse food trends, embracing ingredients from Ayurveda and plant-based options. Their focus on self-improvement is also evident, with over 40% hoping to dedicate 2024 to personal and career growth. When it comes to fashion, nearly half of Indian Gen Z enjoy putting their own creative spin on styles and thrifting unique finds.
Memes also carry more weight for this demographic. A notable number consider a partner's taste in memes as a dealbreaker. Fandoms likewise remain core to Gen Z culture in India, whether for music, sports, gaming or pop culture. An overwhelming majority affiliate themselves with at least one fandom.
As trendsetters, Indian Gen Z also demonstrate a preference for relatable content across social media. They want more glimpses into everyday life and professions through vlogs and influencer posts.
Overall, 2024 looks to be a year where their impact on shaping new trends will be one to watch. "And, while in many aspects Indian Gen Z's are similar to their global peers, these trends also show specific areas where they are different and unique", said Paras Sharma, Director of Content and Community Partnerships, Meta, India.
