Gmail for web users have had access to the Insert button since 2024.
Gmail's Android app is receiving an upgrade to its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities with the addition of an 'Insert' button for its Gemini assistant. This addition will streamline AI-created responses into email compositions. While web users have had access to the Insert button since 2024, the feature is now expanding to Android devices.
The addition appears in Gmail for Android version 2025.01.05.715468168, as noted in Android Authority's report. To use this feature, users must have an active Gemini Advanced subscription.
Earlier, Android users using Gemini for email responses faced a cumbersome process of manually transferring the AI-suggested content into their drafts. The new Insert button eliminates this inefficiency, enabling direct integration of AI responses with a single touch.
Android Authority's video showcase demonstrates the straightforward implementation. Users can find the Insert button alongside the Like and Dislike options in the lower-right section of Gemini's suggestions.
Located beside the copy function, this button transfers AI-generated text directly into drafts, where users can refine the content before sending. This enhancement builds upon Gmail's "Suggest a reply" functionality, which encompasses AI features such as email summarisation, conversation history analysis, and Google Calendar integration. The calendar features, added in late 2024, enable Gemini to generate calendar entries from email content and respond to schedule-related inquiries.
Users globally can access this feature by installing the latest Gmail update.
