The two brands have signed an MoU that will enable battery swaps to take place for future Gogoro battery-enabled two-wheelers
Taiwanese Gogoro has announced that it will be setting up its battery swap stations across Hindustan Petroleum’s fuel stations across the country, making it a breezy affair for future customers. Gogoro has already established its presence in its home country, where the swap stations have fared pretty well.
The Indian experience with swap stations is still pretty much non-existent. We’ve had brands who have claimed that they wanted to set up such facilities for their own products but haven’t done them successfully so far. Plus, we are yet to see what happens with Honda when it does decide to get its first e-scooter by March 2024.
This partnership will give Gogoro’s India plans quite a boost. By setting up the swap stations, it would now make sense for Gogoro to get its e-scooters to India. We believe that the first one will be the new CrossOver e-scooter that was unveiled a few weeks back. The CrossOver is geared towards taking on hardy riding conditions, something that India has in abundance.
“India is in the early stages of a massive electric transformation of its urban two-wheel transportation system, and it is increasingly evident that battery swapping is a critical component to broad adoption, so building out the swapping infrastructure is crucial. Today, we are announcing a partnership with HPCL, one of India’s leading oil companies, to rollout thousands of Gogoro battery swapping stations across its retail outlets throughout the country in the coming years,” said Horace Luke, founder, and CEO of Gogoro.
“HPCL and Gogoro are partnering to develop a broad battery swapping infrastructure for two-wheel vehicles that will both grow and sustain a leading electric vehicle ecosystem in India that is safe, clean and readily available across India’s cities,” said Amit Garg, Director of Marketing at HPCL. “Gogoro has demonstrated its global leadership in battery swapping and electric two-wheel innovation and with nearly 500 million battery swaps to date has developed a platform we can embrace and emulate.”
