A Locally Manufactured Smartscooter Tailored for the Indian Market
Gogoro has unveiled its first India-made Smartscooter, the CrossOver GX250. This release represents a significant development for the company, aligning with preferences articulated by Gogoro pilot riders in the Indian market. Along with this they have also launched their Battery Swapping EcoSystem.
The CrossOver GX250 features an all-terrain frame designed for diverse road conditions. The chassis prioritises rigidity to enhance strength and stability, with a notable ground clearance of 176mm.
Powered by a 2.5 kW Direct Drive, the CrossOver GX250 achieves a top speed exceeding 60 kmph and a certified range of 111 km. The redesigned frame aims to improve overall performance and suspension system robustness for larger loads, emphasising rider comfort and stability.
In response to various riding scenarios, the CrossOver GX250 integrates passenger space and storage solutions. A mounting point expansion system with 26 locking points and four cargo areas, including a platform-designed headlight, foot, seat, and rear cargo space, caters to diverse storage needs. The rear seat's flexibility allows for additional cargo storage.
India's International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) certified the CrossOver GX250 in August, confirming compliance with local standards. In November, Gogoro became the first foreign two-wheel original equipment manufacturer (OEM) acknowledged by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), making the CrossOver GX250 eligible for SIDBI's EV financing programs.
Gogoro's CrossOver GX250 launch is complemented by its renowned battery swapping platform, recognized by Guidehouse Insights as the leading solution for lightweight urban vehicles. This intelligent and safe battery refueling system, certified by India's ICAT in July, caters to diverse needs. In Taiwan, the Gogoro Network, with nearly 600,000 riders and 1.3 million smart batteries across 12,000 stations, showcases its extensive reach. With over 400,000 daily swaps and 510 million total swaps, Gogoro's initiative has saved 785,000+ tons of CO2 since 2015, contributing significantly to environmental sustainability.
Gogoro partners with businesses like Zypp for sustainable delivery using battery swapping. In Mobility-as-a-Service, collaborations with companies like FutureEV enable shared mobility deployments. Turnkey solutions with Nebula Energy in Nepal deploy Gogoro's battery swapping and Smartscooters. Ongoing partnerships with Zypp Electric and FutureEV extend Gogoro's reach. Goa sees a new scooter sharing service exclusively using Gogoro technology. Nebula Energy, a subsidiary of MG Group, joins Gogoro for battery swapping in Nepal.
The CrossOver will be available in India in three models, the CrossOver GX250, CrossOver 50 and CrossOver S. The CrossOver GX250 is immediately available today with the CrossOver 50 and CrossOver S shipping later in 2024.
