The Maharashtra Highway Police have announced permanent traffic restrictions on the connecting link of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, barring all goods vehicles, including small commercial vehicles, from using the route from November 1.
The restrictions have been imposed in view of the tunnels’ design and technical features and to ensure commuter safety, according to a notification issued by Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) Praveen Salunkhe, PTI reported.
Which Vehicles Are Allowed
Under the rules, private cars, jeeps and other non-transport light motor vehicles (LMVs) will be permitted to use the connecting link, earlier known as the “missing link”. Passenger buses and other passenger vehicles will also be allowed on the route. However, all goods vehicles, including pickup vans and Tata Ace vehicles, will be prohibited from using the section.
Vehicles carrying inflammable, explosive or other hazardous materials will also be barred. Vehicles affected by the restrictions will have to use the original alignment of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
Permitted Speed Limits
The notification sets a maximum speed limit of 100 kmph for private cars and other light motor vehicles. Passenger buses and other passenger vehicles will be subject to a maximum speed limit of 80 kmph.
The restrictions will take effect on November 1 and remain in force until further orders, the notification stated.
