The Pixel 8 series, which is being unveiled at an event in New York tomorrow, has been given a full hands-on treatment.

Somehow, Google just cannot catch a break with the Pixel. Once again, the phone has been leaked and given a full hands-on treatment before it has been officially unveiled. Things have become so bad for Google that a couple of years ago, it started giving hints and glimpses of the Pixel line months in advance. The Pixel 8 series, which is being unveiled at an event in New York tomorrow, has been given a full hands-on treatment. This comes after even the packaging was leaked.

The unboxing video shows the compact packaging that Google has been using for these phones. It includes a neatly packed USB Type-C cable, a manual, and a quick switch adapter that can be used to transfer contents from your old device to the Pixel 8. It even includes a USB-A to Type-C adaptor, which is greatly appreciated.

The video also showcases some of the colour variations for the new devices. The video features the shiny grey model with the silver camera bar. The Pixel 8 shown in the video comes in a matte black finish with a sleek black glassy camera bar.

Both phones are shown with an in-display fingerprint scanner. As we have written before, there is a 6.7-inch Pixel 8 Pro, which will also have an updated camera system including a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera that enables macro focus, and a 48-megapixel camera with a 5x telephoto lens, as well as a body temperature sensor.

The smaller Pixel gets a 6.17-inch display and has a dual-camera system. The primary camera remains the same as the Pro, but it misses out on the telephoto zoom lens and body temperature sensor. The ultra-wide camera is a lower resolution 12-megapixel snapper, which also supports macro photography.

The phones support AI-based imaging features like no other phone. The Magic eraser feature that Google showed off last year is in for some big updates. Even the night-time photography abilities of the Pixel are now being challenged, so it will be nice to see Google provide updates.

This phone will be based on the new Tensor G3 chipset. This will be one of the first processors to use ARM V9 cores something that Apple is also not doing with the latest A17 Pro. It will have 9 cores in total which bodes for a very unique architecture. There will be four low power Cortex A510 cores, four medium workload Cortex A715 cores and a high performance Cortex X3 core. All the cores have higher clock speeds than the Tensor G2. This chip will have better security features and will be a purely 64-bit chip.

The bigger deal will be on the GPU side with the addition of Ray Traced graphics with the Mali G715 GPU that will have 10 cores. Like the A17 Pro on the new iPhones, it will have an AV1 encode chip which could help Google enhance the video recording abilities of the phone.

A TPU or a neural processing engine called Rio is speculated to be running at 1.1GHz. Google is also adding a GXP to Tensor G3 which could offload many tasks from the GPU such as image processing. Google is also expected to move to faster UFS 4.0 memory.

Modem wise it will retain the Samsung Exynos 5300 which means it will not be the best performing 5G phone in terms of power draw and network stability.
