The 499cc REVO D+ diesel engine from Greaves Cotton has been granted Euro V+ certification, making it suitable for European markets.
Greaves Cotton Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with France-based Ligier Group, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of light and heavy quadricycles. Under this collaboration, Greaves’ Euro V+ certified 499cc REVO D+ diesel engine will power Ligier’s latest microcar models—the JS50 and Myli—marking a significant contribution from India’s precision engineering sector to advanced European mobility.
Developed and manufactured at Greaves’ state-of-the-art Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility, these engines are already being integrated into vehicles sold across major European markets, including France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, and the Nordic and Baltic regions.
Powering the Ligier JS50 and Myli is a compact 499cc REVO D+, single-cylinder, 4-stroke diesel engine which delivers 6.0 kW (8 bhp) at 3000 rpm and a peak torque 26 Nm between 1800–2200 rpm. Greaves says that this diesel mill is designed for superior fuel efficiency, low friction, refined NVH performance and long-term reliability — some key attributes desired for Europe’s demanding microcar segment.
To achieve Euro V+ compliance, the engine underwent extensive European-grade testing, including endurance validation, cold-weather simulations, lifecycle reliability assessments and stringent emissions evaluations. This underscores Greaves Cotton’s capability to meet international environmental and regulatory standards.
The partnership highlights the growing relevance of Indian engineering expertise in meeting Europe’s high-performance expectations. Speaking on this development, Parag Satpute, Managing Director and Group CEO of Greaves Cotton, said, This partnership with Ligier is a proud milestone for Greaves Cotton, showcasing how a Made-in-India powertrain is driving European mobility solutions.”
Ligier Group CEO Christian Dujardin echoed this sentiment, noting that the jointly developed REVO D+ engine “perfectly meets today’s regulatory standards and customer expectations,” and reflects the strength of the collaboration.
Beyond powertrains, Greaves is also developing a complete vehicle control ecosystem, moving from component supplier to full-system solutions provider. This partnership sets a strong precedent for cross-continental innovation, demonstrating how Indian engineering and European automotive expertise can jointly advance efficient, regulatory-compliant mobility technologies.
