The new iPhones, set to be unveiled next month, will likely include the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max models.
In his latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman stated that the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup is expected to maintain stable sales despite offering only incremental upgrades. The new iPhones, set to be unveiled next month, will likely include the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max models.
Rumoured features of the iPhone 16 series include Apple Intelligence across all models and compatibility with iPhone 15 Pro versions. The Action Button will now be available on non-Pro models. The Pro models will feature a DSLR-like Camera Button for enhanced photography control. The Pro models are expected to see slight increases in screen size. All models will feature the A18 chip and 8GB of memory.
While these upgrades are noteworthy, Gurman suggests they may not be sufficient to drive significant sales growth. Apple's financial guidance appears to align with this assessment, as the company has not projected iPhone growth for the current quarter.
The iPhone SE 4, expected in early 2025, is rumoured to adopt a design similar to the iPhone 14. It will feature a full-device OLED display and Apple Intelligence capabilities. Priced around $500, this model could potentially capture a significant market share.
The iPhone 17 lineup, slated for September 2025, may introduce a new "Air" version between the standard and Pro models. This slimmer design aims to offer a stylish alternative without the high-end features of the Pro series.
Gurman speculates that these upcoming models could help Apple regain meaningful iPhone growth in 2025. However, the company's long-term goal of packing Pro-level power into a smaller design may not materialize until at least 2027.
The much-anticipated foldable iPhone remains on Apple's radar, though, as per Gurman, the company is currently prioritizing the development of a foldable iPad.
The iPhone 16 lineup is expected to launch between September 6th and 10th, with a design and feature set reminiscent of last year's models.
