Bengaluru also imposed a similar fine amid a severe water crisis.
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has imposed a new ₹5000 fine for anyone who uses potable water to wash cars/bikes. This decision comes amid the severe water crisis that has gripped the city, which has been induced by the severe heat.
The civic body has circulated the following instruction wherein all residents are not allowed to wash their cars/bikes using potable water between 5 am and 9 am every day. Moreover, the MCG has also warned residents that if they are found to violate again, they will not only be charged the fine amount again but will also disconnect the water connection. To restore this connection, residents will be required to pay a further ₹1000.

The MCG has followed the footsteps of the Karnataka Water Supply and Sewerage Board, which had also implemented a similar fine in March in Bengaluru earlier this year. The Silicon Valley of India was also undergoing a severe water crisis with its ground-level water dipping to its lowest level.
Making the situation worse is the rampant installation of illegal motor pumps directly on top of supply lines by illegal car wash centres. While the MCG will be cracking down on these illegal establishments and closing them down.
In the meantime, if you plan to wash your car/bike in this heat without wasting much water, you should think about waterless cleaning. Use a simple cloth to wipe and keep the car clear regularly of any mud or dust buildup. But if you need to keep your car clean in Gurugram without much washing, we would suggest you keep it parked indoors, so that it doesn’t get dusty, which becomes the case when you park it in Gurugram.
