The Harley-Davidson X440 T gets cosmetic and features updates over the original X440 although mechanically it remains the same.
Harley-Davidson joined hands with Hero MotoCorp to bring out the X440 in July 2023 — the American brand’s first locally-developed motorcycle in India. However, reception to the product wasn’t the best. In the previous financial year, only 13,963 units of the H-D X440 were sold across the country.
The Milwaukee-based motorcycle brand has tried to revive the X440 by bringing a new variant of the roadster. Called the X440T, this variant gets subtle tweaks to the styling and some additional equipment to make it a more attractive and premium offering. Priced at ₹2.79 lakh (ex-showroom), deliveries for the new Harley-Davidson X440 T are expected to commence soon whereas bookings for the same are currently underway.
The styling of the X440T continues to draw inspiration from the Harley-Davidson XR1200 but small changes give it a fresh appeal. For starters, the awkward and upright rear fender of the original Harley-Davidson X440 has been replaced with a sleeker and more contemporary unit that looks more cohesive and a bit more premium. It subtly incorporates a flat-track-inspired design language without appearing overt or exaggerated. Further, the seat has been reworked for enhanced comfort.

Additionally, the motorcycle features a flatter and wider handlebar compared to the standard X440. Another notable addition is a pair of bar-end mirrors that amplifies the neo-retro appeal of the X440 T. Harley-Davidson is offering four colour options with the X440 T namely Vivid Black, Pearl Red, Pearl White, and Pearl Blue. More importantly, the company claims to have improved the overall build quality of the motorcycle which was a complaint against the original X440.
Besides cosmetic and quality updates, the Harley-Davidson X440 T gets some new features. These include a ride-by-wire throttle that enables two riding modes: Rain and Road along with a switchable traction control and switchable rear ABS. Both ABS and traction control can be turned off only in the Road mode. The Rain mode reduces the torque output by 10 percent. Harley has also addressed the messy handlebar cable situation in the older X440 by decluttering the cockpit of the X440 T giving it a cleaner look overall.

Mechanically, the Harley-Davidson X440T remains identical to the original X440. Powering the roadster is a 440 cc air/oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine that churns out 27 bhp and 38 Nm of peak torque. This motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox and offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 35 kmpl.
The suspension setup remains unchanged, featuring a 43 mm KYB USD fork with 130 mm of travel at the front and twin gas-charged shock absorbers with a 7-step preload adjustment at the rear. Braking duties are managed by a 320 mm front disc and a 240 mm rear disc. Complementing the setup are MRF Zapper Hyke tyres mounted on diamond-cut alloy wheels.
