Here Technologies, the Netherlands-based mapping technology and automotive services company spun out of Nokia in 2007, has partnered with India’s geospatial engineering and location data firm Genesys International, to develop next-gen digital cockpit solutions for automotive safety and navigation in India. The two companies have announced a strategic partnership that will leverage real-time traffic data, dynamic maps, and localised safety features.
The two partners say their upcoming offerings will be a significant improvement over current in-car navigation solutions, with the potential to have a positive impact on road safety in India. A key focus area for the two companies is tackling distracted driving. While Here will leverage its live maps and real-time alerts for changing traffic conditions, Genesys will work on integrating them into ADAS features in vehicles to deliver more advanced digital cockpits and next-gen driver experiences.
According to both companies, current digital navigation systems fall short of what drivers truly need. Here says its context-aware mapping architecture can keep drivers informed about road conditions, speed limits, and traffic in real time, showing optimised routes. Drivers can also get EV-specific routing information that takes charging into account.
Deon Newman, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Asia Pacific, at Here Technologies said “There is a clear call from road users in India for more accessible and advanced vehicle safety technologies, including ADAS. Our collaboration with Genesys International bridges global expertise and local innovation, enabling automakers to integrate intelligent, ADAS-ready solutions that support safer, smarter, and more connected driving experiences in India.”
Sajid Malik, Chairman & Managing Director of Genesys International, said “This partnership with HERE is a significant step in our effort to improve the safety and intelligence of India's roads. We are combining our India-specific ADAS map technology with HERE's worldwide navigation platform to assist automakers in offering truly connected, context-aware driving experiences. This strategic partnership supports India's automotive transition to software-defined, connected mobility by providing Indian cars with integrated safety features, dynamic maps, and real-time traffic updates.”
According to a road safety survey conducted by Here last year, 98 percent of respondents across India were concerned about road safety and 91 percent had a positive impression of the potential of ADAS features. The two companies will target Indian auto manufacturers who want to implement international-level experiences across their navigation, safety, and infotainment platforms.
