The upcoming Punch.ev will be based on the new Acti.ev architecture.
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) has unveiled the new Punch.ev and on the same occasion, the brand also debuted its brand-new, fully EV architecture, Acti.ev. We have already discussed the highlights of this new architecture, which you can read about in detail here.
But our curiosity lied with the fact as to why Tata introduced this new platform with the micro-SUV instead of their already popular product Nexon.ev. When asked the same to Anand Kulkarni, Vice President- Tata Passenger Electric Vehicles, & Head - Vehicle Engineering - Passenger Cars Business Unit, he said, “There’s been an evolution with the Nexon.ev itself from the time we did our first car (EV)... and there’s a lot of features which have already come on to the Nexon.ev. The transition of the Nexon.ev from Gen 1 and Gen 2 have always been in course and it has already come a long way and in a “fair way”, he pointed.
Yes. Anand Kulkarni confirmed that there will be a time in the future when we can see the Nexon.ev migrate onto this new platform very easily. This is primarily down to the modular scalable character of the platform.
However, he also clarified that Tata wanted to debut this new platform with the Punch.ev and then follow it up with the rest of the projects (EVs) that will launch in the future. Tata will be launching five more models based on this new platform in the next 18 months, and that includes the Sierra.ev, Harrier.ev and Currv.ev.
Anand Kulkarni also mentioned how from a technological perspective the new Acti.ev architecture is viable for application with the electric Tigor and Tiago. But whether or not, these cars benefit from this new architecture will primarily boil down to their “application of what those projects (actually) are.” However, he did not rule out the possibility of these cars benefitting from different elements from the new Acti.ev platform in the future.
