Hero MotoCorp has pulled the plug on its flagship product owing to poor sales.
Hero MotoCorp has silently discontinued the Mavrick 440 from the Indian market. While the company officials haven't shared an official statement, dealers have confirmed to us that they haven’t been receiving any fresh units over the past few months and even had stopped taking bookings for the bike. The Mavrick 440 was the brand’s flagship product and also the first bike to spawn from its collaboration with Harley-Davidson and the 440 cc engine was shared with the same.
Even the SIAM data confirms the same as hardly any bikes were built and Hero had to pull the plug owing to poor sales. While the Mavrick 440 was priced competitively and even the motor with its punchy torque made it an enjoyable motorcycle to ride, it never managed to grab the attention of the Indian bikers. One of the primary reasons was the styling of the bike and more so to do with its proportions as despite being a 440 cc motorcycle, it looked like a 200-250 cc motorcycle. Buyers in this segment give a lot of precedence to form and this is one of the key reasons why the Royal Enfield Classic 350 has dominated proceedings. The other issue was the marketing which didn’t strike a chord with the customers and also many didn’t want to invest over ₹2 lakh on a Hero MotoCorp product.
But all isn’t lost, the halt in production might also signal to the fact that the company is working on the updated, Mavrick 440 which was showcased at the 2024 EICMA motorcycle show last year. The updated bia ke featured chunky gold-finished USD fork to help improve the visual appeal of the bike. On the features front, the 2025 Hero Mavrick 440 sported a TFT instrument console to make it more premium. Hero officials haven’t confirmed the above, but we do think the halt in production is to introduce the updated bike with a fresh marketing campaign, whether the Mavrick 440 is able to make an impact a second time around is something only time will answer. In fact, patent images of the scrambler version of the Mavrick 440 were revealed in 2024 leading us to believe that Hero hasn’t given up on the 440 cc platform yet.
