Hero x Zero

The Indian manufacturer is developing this electric bike with US-based Zero Motorcycles.

Hero MotoCorp’s CEO Niranjan Gupta confirmed in an analyst call that the brand is in advanced stages of developing a performance-oriented middleweight electric bike. While the timeline for this upcoming product is yet to be fixed, the CEO confirmed that it will “not be too far off,” reported PTI. The largest two-wheeler manufacturer from India is collaborating with California-based Zero Motorcycles to develop this new bike. As part of that process, Hero MotoCorp’s board has already approved an equity investment of up to $60 million (i.e. approximately ₹505 crores).

As mentioned above, details about this upcoming bike are minimal. However, Hero is working on a bunch of electric scooters on the homefront. These upcoming models will be based on the same Vida V1 platform but will be more affordable than the V1 scooters, which currently retail between ₹1 lakh and ₹1.50 lakh (post subsidies). Hero MotoCorp has already patented the scooter's design, and you can learn more about it by following the link here

With the upcoming middleweight electric bike, Hero MotoCorp will target new foreign markets. The company has already witnessed positive traction in its overseas businesses, particularly in Colombia and Mexico. With such positive sentiment, Hero MotoCorp’s advent into the performance-oriented electric bike segment couldn’t have been more appropriate.
