The Indian two-wheeler major has cited the need for a short term supply alignment as the reason behind this pause.
Hero MotoCorp has announced a temporary three-day suspension of production at four of its six manufacturing facilities. The Indian two-wheeler giant’s Dharuhera, Gurugram, Haridwar, and Neemrana will remain non-operational from April 17 to 19, as the company wants to align its supply chain and at the same time improve the facility upkeep as well. Otherwise, operations at the Tirupati and Halol facilities will continue as normal.
"During this planned pause, we are taking the opportunity to carry out maintenance, upkeep, and facility enhancements to further strengthen our operations. Production will resume on 21st April 2025," the company revealed in a statement filed with the National Stock Exchange of India and the Bombay Stock Exchange. Hero MotoCorp has also reassured stakeholders that this temporary shutdown "will not impact our ability to meet retail demand across domestic and international markets" and that "any production deferment will be efficiently recovered in the following month."
This pause in production comes soon after Honda almost overtook Hero MotoCorp last financial year wherein the former narrowed down the cumulative sales gap to just around 68,000 units. This is the closest margin ever recorded between the two rivals and it also means a drop in market share for the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the country, which can again be taken as an indication that demand for Hero MotoCorps bikes have dwindled. However, with Hero MotoCorp aiming to further expand its portfolio later this year, especially in the scooter segment, the brand should recapture lost grounds in the coming months.
