Hero’s 440 cc Motorcycle Teased: Classic 350 Rival Or Xtreme 440?

Hero is all set to release its own product on the new 440 cc engine platform as the company has shared a teaser with the exhaust note of the new bike. It sounds very similar to the Harley-Davidson X440 and we expect it to be more or less similarly tuned.

Hero and Harley have co-developed this platform to spawn multiple motorcycles for both marques. We have seen the first offering of this joint effort in the form of the X440, which in spirit is a scaled-down Harley Sportster family member. So, when it comes to the Hero derivative, we think it could be one of two possible solutions:

A Proper Old School Classic 350-rivalling Roadster

Again to reiterate, the Harley-Davidson X440 is more on the lines of a sportster and not a typical, conventional roadster. Hero could possibly build one and take on the might that is Royal Enfield. The long-stroke engine would suit nature well and with traditional styling, the Classic 350 could very well get another strong challenger.

Hero would look to sell it through its vast dealership network as well as the premium joint outlets that it is setting up for the Harley-Davidson, Vida and its own larger capacity motorcycles. Considering the reach, this would be one proper challenger for Royal Enfield, who up until now had to deal with rivals which do not have as widespread an appeal as Hero does.

The other possible alternative would be…

A Large Capacity Naked

Via its investor documents, Hero had suggested that a large capacity naked on the 440 platform was in the pipeline. While this will require the engine to undergo a fair amount of revision, it would ideally be more on the line of the company’s current ethos of sporty commuter-centric naked motorcycles like the Xtreme 160R.

The silhouette of the motorcycle in the document also suggests a similar approach. It would have a muscular stance with an approachable riding posture that should be city friendly with a hint of sportiness.
